Stormy Smoleny Ph.D., LMHC, NCPsyA is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the State of Florida (MH1448), a Licensed Psychoanalyst in New York State (000595-1), and a Nationally Certified Psychoanalyst (P931223). She has a Post-doc certification in Psychoanalysis, a Doctorate degree in Counseling Psychology, and a Masters degree in Management/Organizational Psychology. She has been in private practice for approximately twenty-five years, and has worked with individuals, couples, families, and groups. Before going into a clinical practice, she worked as an organizational psychologist assisting organizations with teambuilding, stress management, and conflict resolution. She has also taught psychology courses at Miami-Dade College for over thirty years.

Dr. Smoleny’s preferred method of treatment is psychoanalysis, which is defined as the observation, description, evaluation, and interpretation of dynamic unconscious mental processes that contribute to the formation of personality and behavior. Her goal is to identify and resolve unconscious psychic problems that affect interpersonal relationships and emotional development, to facilitate changes in personality and behavior, and to develop adaptive functioning.

Dr. Smoleny’s specialty is modern psychoanalysis. This is an orientation that offers a corrective emotional experience rather than intellectual interpretations and explanations. The term corrective emotional experience means that the patient is healed through emotional communication and interaction with the analyst. Within an emotionally corrective setting there is opportunity for the release of negative emotion, for emotional needs to be met, and for awareness to naturally evolve. It is an environment that fosters maturation and development through a present-moment healing experience.

Dr. Smoleny has also studied philosophy, spirituality, metaphysics, nutrition, exercise, and alternative healing. For those who prefer a more holistic approach to psychotherapy, she offers a unique blend of traditional and non-traditional thought.
